Since 1995, the Don't Thump Your Melon program has been a joint venture of the Rapid City Regional Hospital Foundation and Auxiliary, and Kohl's Department Store in Rapid City.

The Kohl's Don't Thump Your Melon Program provides helmets to those in need, fitting of helmets for those who have helmets and instruction about helmet safety.

"If even one brain injury for a child or young adult is prevented by our education, then all our efforts are worthwhile," said Kim Johnson, Don't Thump Your Melon Program Coordinator. "The generous donation from Kohl's Care for Kids Program allows us to get this important message out to more children in the Black Hills region."

For more information on bike safety, statistics and valuable resources, visit the state Bike Helmet Safety Program website.
