Time Away
All residents accumulate 33 days per year of Paid Personal Leave (PPL). This includes vacation, sick days, and holidays. Residents may schedule a maximum of 23 working days of PPL in any academic year, subject to specific rotations limitations and ABFM requirements regarding time off. Unused PPL may be "cashed in" subject to maximum accumulations levels outlined in RCRH policies.
Health & Dental Insurance
Residents are provided single/family coverage through Rapid City Regional Hospital and premiums for the coverage are deducted from the Residents paycheck. However, premium costs are added to the base rate of the Resident's salary ($3,905.76 per year) to compensate for premium expenses. In other words, there is no net cost to the resident for single or family health and dental coverage.
Professional Liability
Rapid City Regional Hospital pays the full premium for all residents including "tail" coverage. Coverage for moonlighting activities is the responsibility of the resident.
Long Term Disability
Long Term Disability Insurance coverage is available available after 1 month of employment at resident expense.
Group Life Insurance
1x annual salary, not to exceed $50,000. One-hundred percent of premiums are paid by Rapid City Regional Hospital. Additional coverage can be applied for by residents and their dependents, at the resident's expense.
Moving Allowance
A one-time $1000.00 moving allowance is paid to new residents.
Professional Memberships
Annual dues are paid for the American Academy of Family Physicians, the South Dakota Academy of Family Physicians and the Black Hills District Medical Society.
Meals
A meal allowance is provided at no cost to residents for use in the main hospital. Lunch is provided at noon conferences.
CME
All residents may take 5 days of paid conference time per academic year.
- First-year residents may receive up to $1000 in CME funds. **
- Second-year residents may receive up to $1400 in CME funds. **
- Third-year residents may receive up to $1600 in CME funds. **

- BLS, ACLS, ATLS, ALSO, NRP, and PALS courses are provided for all residents.

Parking
Free parking is available in the physicians' parking lot at the main hospital.
Miscellaneous
As employees of RCRH, residents may take advantage of a wide variety of discounted items and services throughout Rapid City and the Black Hills area. These include area attractions, automotive services, business services, dining, finances, health/beauty, fitness, home services, motels/hotels and personal items. On-site services include drop off/pickup service for oil changes and dry cleaning.
