Medical Radiology Program

Course Descriptions

Advanced Radiation Science: This course covers the theory and application of radiation protection and radiobiology.

Clinical Practicum: Students participate in a competency-based clinical education component that spans the two years of the program.

Digital Imaging: This course covers the physics, concepts and the image basics of digital radiography and PACS.

Image Evaluation: Introduce the student to a methodology for design and implementation of an image evaluation program in a radiology department.

Independent Study: Second-year students prepare papers and projects.

Rad Workshop: This senior course includes a variety of topics such as venipuncture, critical thinking, and others.

Medical Ethics & Law: This course covers the ethical issues that radiographers may encounter.

Medical Terminology: Introduces the student to medical terminology through a unique combination of anatomy and physiology, and word building principles. The course will concentrate on terminology consistently used in medical imaging.

Patient Care: General topics in patient care and procedures are covered; patient transport, communication, medical emergencies, vital signs, infection control...

Radiographic Pathology: A general overview of the body systems from a disease-oriented perspective is presented in this senior course. Radiographic teaching files are used extensively.

Radiographic Procedures: Entry-level radiographic imaging procedures are covered from basic to advanced, spanning five quarters of the program.

Radiation Science: The theory and concepts of physics, x-rays, exposure and imaging are studied; this extends through the first year of the program.

Clinical Laboratory: This course is conducted in tandem with Radiographic Procedures. Students work with imaging equipment, accessories and a phantom patient.

Special Imaging: This course specifically covers the various modalities used for imaging the human body including mammography, CT, MRI, US and more.
