If you or someone you know seems down or a little on edge lately, holiday blues might be to blame. Temporary sadness, fatigue and frustration are a few signs of the holiday blues which typically pass when the season concludes. People tend to put a lot of stress on themselves during the holidays. "We control what the holidays are to us – whether stressful or relaxing or joyful," says Laura Hughes, Psy.D., with the Regional Rehabilitation Institute in Rapid City, S.D., and American Psychological Association (APA) Public Education Campaign representative for South Dakota.

Sturgis Regional Hospital Nationally Recognized for Exceptional Pain Management

Sturgis Regional Hospital (STRH), in Sturgis, S.D., has received national recognition for being among the best in providing well-controlled patient pain management. Becker's Hospital Review recently issued a report listing the top 44 hospitals in the United States which provide exceptional patient pain management. STRH made the top third of the Becker's list with 85 percent of its patients saying their pain was "always" well controlled. It is the only South Dakota hospital listed on the report.

Flu Detected - Vaccination Remains Recommended Deterrent

It has been a slow start to the influenza season this year, but that might be changing. Regional Urgent Care in Rapid City, S.D., went from having no positive patient cases to three cases on Dec. 10.
