Conference Set for April 29

During a KOTA-TV interview on April 8, Carman Timmerman, Regional Health Institutional Review Board Member and Vice Chair, talks about third Regional Health Research and Compliance Conference. The event which is open to the public, free of charge, will take place at the Rushmore Plaza Holiday Inn on Tuesday, April 29. The guest speaker at the event will be Dennis Slamon, M.D., who is internationally known for his work in breast cancer research. Kelly Airey, M.D., Cardiologist, Joins Regional Heart Doctors

Regional Heart Doctors is pleased to announce the addition of Kelly Airey, M.D., F.A.C.C, F.H.R.S, cardiologist, to the clinic staff. Regional Heart Doctors is located at 4150 Fifth St. Dr. Airey completed her medical degree at the University of Toronto, Toronto, ON, Canada. She finished her fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at University of Nebraska Medical Center and her fellowship in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Seger Honored with Rapid City Regional Hospital's DAISY Award for Nurses

Pam Seger received the February DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses at Rapid City Regional Hospital (RCRH). She is a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Services Department and has been with the facility for almost one year. Seger was nominated for the award by a patient she attended to while working in the Progressive Care Unit. The patient had been in a lot of pain but Seger was very attentive. She gave the patient words of encouragement, held the patient's hand, and assured the pain would pass.

Schulte Named New Sturgis Regional Hospital CEO

Mark Schulte, FACHE, is the new Chief Executive Officer of Sturgis Regional Hospital where he oversees the hospital and Sturgis Regional Senior Care. Schulte comes to Regional Health from Avera Creighton Hospital in Creighton, Neb., where he was CEO. In his role there, he managed the hospital, a 47-bed skilled nursing facility, and two clinics.

Volunteers Honored for Contributions to Rapid City Regional Hospital

As part of National Volunteer Week, many Rapid City Regional Hospital (RCRH) volunteers were honored during a Volunteer Appreciation and Awards Brunch April 4.
"Each and every volunteer plays a critical role as part of our care team," said Tim Sughrue, RCRH CEO. "We thank the volunteers for their continuous dedication and contributions to Rapid City Regional Hospital." Joyce Bjork, center, was honored for the most volunteer hours, 18,000, dedicated to the hospital.

South Dakota Hospitals and LifeSource Encourage Citizens to Make Life-Saving Decision

April is National Donate Life Month and the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) along with South Dakota’s three health systems – Avera, Regional and Sanford are partnering with LifeSource to participate in a campaign called “Let Life Bloom” focused on registering individuals to be donors. Donation saves lives and the need is great. Currently, there are more than 300 South Dakotans waiting for a kidney and many more on dialysis. Donation also saves costs, as it’s estimated that a kidney transplant pays for itself in a little over three years. Increasing donor designation will increase donation and help all who are waiting for organs, eyes and tissues.

Spearfish Regional Hospital (SPRH) recently announced Jamie Curran, SPRH Laboratory Assistant, as its 2013 Employee of the Year.
