Tips & Resources Available to Help Patients

Sam received a bill for health care services provided by a physician. He was upset when the bill showed none of the services were covered by insurance and he owed a large sum. Following a call to his insurance provider, he was pleased to find out his insurance would resubmit the bill to cover the services and he would owe little, if any amount. Sam's next call was to inform the health care provider of the insurance update. Health care billing expert Patty Rogers, Regional Health Director of Patient Financial Services, in Rapid City, S.D., says this is not an uncommon scenario and Sam took the correct action to further understand his bill. A recent article by The Associated Press found patients do not understand their hospital bills, don't know how much they owe, when payment is due and who they should pay.

Theme Winner Announced for 18th Annual Hospice of the Northern Hills Benefit Ball

"The Golden Age of Hollywood," submitted by Rene Porter Stewart of Spearfish, has been selected as the theme for the 2015 Hospice of the Northern Hills (HNH) Benefit Ball. Each year, attendees at the ball submit ideas for the following year's theme. This year, in addition to Stewart, Amber Koehler and Anne Miller of Spearfish submitted similar theme ideas; therefore, all three names were placed in a drawing for the final winner. As this year's winner, Stewart will receive four tickets to the March 7, 2015, ball at the Spearfish Holiday Inn and Convention Center.

Regional Health Implements Visitation Guidelines to Protect Patients & Senior Care Residents

Western South Dakota is experiencing an increase in the number of individuals with respiratory infections, including influenza. As Regional Health's priority is the safety and health of its most vulnerable hospital patients and senior care residents, visitor guidelines have been implemented at all Regional Health facilities. Facilities include Regional Hospitals in: Custer, Lead-Deadwood, Rapid City (including the Regional Rehabilitation Institute), Spearfish and Sturgis. Visitation guidelines are also in effect at: Custer Regional Senior Care and Wedgwood Regional Senior Care in Custer, Fairmont Grand Regional Senior Care in Rapid City, Golden Ridge Regional Senior Care in Lead, and Sturgis Regional Senior Care.

Sturgis Regional Hospital Nationally Recognized for Exceptional Pain Management

Sturgis Regional Hospital (STRH), in Sturgis, S.D., has received national recognition for being among the best in providing well-controlled patient pain management. Becker's Hospital Review recently issued a report listing the top 44 hospitals in the United States which provide exceptional patient pain management. STRH made the top third of the Becker's list with 85 percent of its patients saying their pain was "always" well controlled. It is the only South Dakota hospital listed on the report.

Flu Detected - Vaccination Remains Recommended Deterrent
