Pacemaker/ICD Clinic
When you sign-up for pacemaker/ICD monitoring services, you can trust the Regional Heart Doctors to consistently manage your device needs.
Pacemakers
Pacemakers require monitoring to make sure your device is working properly. This process begins in the hospital and then transfers to our clinic. Monitoring can be done in person or by telephone. The first check-up in the clinic is usually scheduled three months after your surgery.
After you leave the hospital, you will receive a schedule of your pacemaker checks and a transmitter that allows your pacemaker to be checked over the telephone. The first telephone check will take place about two weeks after you leave the hospital. You will have another check at four weeks and then once every two months for the first three years. After three years, you will have telephone checks every month until the pacemaker needs to be replaced. Pacemakers may need to be replaced every six to 10 years. You will also be seen at our clinic every six months to one year for pacemakers checks.
Defibrillators
A defibrillator is also known as an AICD (Automatic Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator). These devices require monitoring to make sure they are working properly. This process begins in the hospital and then transfers to our clinic. Monitoring your device is usually done in person at our clinic. However, remote monitoring is now available for most defibrillators. Please call our clinic if you want more information about remote monitoring.
The first time you are scheduled for monitoring of your defibrillator will be approximately four to eight weeks after you leave the hospital. The procedure is commonly known as NIPS. You should have a NIPS procedure once every 12 to 24 months until the defibrillator needs to be replaced. Defibrillators may need to be replaced every six to seven years. You will be seen at our clinic every three months for your defibrillator check-up as well.
The first check in the clinic is usually scheduled after your defibrillator implant surgery and after your first NIPS procedure.
