Concussion Management
Concussion management utilizes a cognitive and systematic approach to determine the presence, extent and appropriate treatment plan for a concussion. If left undiagnosed, head injuries can lead to permanent brain damage. Consequently, South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has passed a bill mandating information, education and treatment for high school student athletes regarding concussions.
Several Regional Medical Clinic providers are certified in the
ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) system. This program has been adopted worldwide by hundreds of high school, collegiate and professional athletes and is designed to improve early recognition of concussions, while providing an individualized, data-driven approach to its management.
While the system has been widely incorporated among athletes, RMC providers also utilize ImPACT for a wide variety of baseline and post-injury testing outside of sports.
