Hospice House FAQs

Can my family stay with me at the Hospice House?

We do not have apartments for family members to stay for extended days, but we do hope that your family and friends will visit frequently.  We have large, private rooms to accommodate visitors and a Great Room where you can also gather with your family. For single night stays, we have pull-out twin beds in the room and a family room with a pull-out sofa that can be reserved.

What should I bring with me to the Hospice House?

Hospice will provide all of the medical equipment and supplies needed for your care, but you may want to bring some comfortable clothing, personal toiletries such as makeup, nail clippers, electric shavers and other personal use items. You may also want to bring favorite photos or pillows that will make this more like your home. 

Can my doctor continue to follow me at the Hospice House?

Yes.  Members of the active staff at Rapid City Regional Hospital are encouraged to follow their patients at the Hospice House. If your doctor does not follow you to the Hospice House, we will work with our medical directors to make sure you have a physician overseeing your care.

Can my friends and church visit at the Hospice House? What about my pets?

Yes, we welcome and encourage visitors at the Hospice House. Pets are welcome to visit you at the Hospice House, but you will need to provide an up-to-date shot record for them.  If you are having a day when you'd like to limit your visitors, we will let them know that as well.

What are the meals like at the Hospice House? 

You will be able to select your meals from a menu provided the prior day. Both regular and specialty diets are accommodated through trays prepared at Rapid City Regional Hospital. If you find that you would like soup, fruit, or a sandwich between meals, that is also available.  If your family would like to bring you a home cooked meal, you can keep those in the family refrigerator as well.  Families are welcome to use the Hospice House kitchen. Just like home, we ask that people using the kitchen clean up after themselves!
