Lab & Imaging Services
The detection of cancer is often made through various types of imaging techniques. Various types of laboratory tests and imaging techniques are used during and after cancer treatment to monitor tumor response to treatment and to watch for potential side effects.
Imaging tests your doctor may order include;
x-rays,
MRIs (magnetic resonance imaging),
CT scans (computerized tomography), PET scans (which measure cellular activity),
nuclear medicine tests,
ultrasounds or
mammograms. Laboratory tests may include tumor markers, organ function monitors, or blood counts.
For your convenience, laboratory services are provided on-site at the Cancer Care Institute. Rapid City Regional Hospital’s
Medical Imaging Services department provides general imaging services. It is important that the tests are scheduled in time for results to be available before your appointment at the Cancer Care Institute.
