Rapid City Regional Hospital and the Cancer Care Institute are committed to patient safety and recognize your importance as a partner in this process.
Here's how we can best become partners in your care:
- Discuss your plan of care.
- Ask questions about safety.
- Know what medications you take and why you take them.
- Bring a list of your medications and dosages to each doctor’s appointment.
- Tell a nurse or physician if something doesn’t seem quite right.
- Include a family member or friend in your care.
- Expect staff to check your name badge or ask your name before giving you any medication or providing any treatments.
- Ask your physician about the risks, benefits, options, and alternatives for any procedure before signing any consent.
Patient Safety Tips:

Write down important facts and questions.

Collect information about your condition.

Know the names/roles of the staff members who are caring for you.

Be sure to inform a staff member about any medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medications and herbal supplements.

Ask about your medications and any potential side effects.

Question your nurse or doctor if you think you are about to receive a new or unusual medication, test, or treatment.

Question staff members if you haven’t seen them wash their hands.

Be sure you understand your discharge instructions before leaving the Cancer Care Institute.
