Volunteer Opportunities

A sampling of some of our volunteer jobs:

Admissions-Volunteers provide hospital and community information to visitors, escort patients, deliver flowers and mail. This position is 4 hours each week and shifts are 8 a.m. – Noon, and Noon – 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Bulk Mailing-Volunteers help various departments do mailings and collate other projects. Bulk mailing volunteers work as needed.

Cancer Care Institute-Volunteers do clerical tasks and visit with patients and their families. This position is available from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. weekdays.

Children's Miracle Network-Volunteers help on the many events that culminate in the "Broadcast of Champions" aired in late May or early June. Events include the Great Black Hills Duck Race in July. CMN raises money for programs and equipment that benefit kids at RCRH.

Clerical-Jobs are available in a number of hospital departments. These may or may not require some computer and office equipment skills. These positions are available 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Gift Shop-Volunteers wait on customers, operate the cash register and credit card machines, stock merchandise and help with other retail tasks. The Gift Shop uses volunteers from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. on weekdays, 9 a.m. – Noon and Noon – 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

Hospice-Volunteers can choose from "direct" or "indirect" care positions. Direct care volunteers provide support to terminally ill patients and their families, while indirect care volunteers assist with clerical projects and mailings.

Sewing Committee-Volunteers make hand-made items for patients and hospital use. The Sewing Committee meets on Monday, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. during the months from September – May.

Special Projects-Volunteers help as needed on projects and events that arise occasionally throughout the year.

Waiting Area-Volunteers serve as liaisons between hospital staff and families, providing information between the waiting rooms and surgery rooms. Waiting room shifts are 8 AM – Noon and Noon – 4 p.m. Monday – Friday.
