Emergency Care

In an emergency, immediate, local patient care is critical. That's why Sturgis Regional Hospital staffs the emergency department 24 hours a day. That staff provides initial patient treatment for a range of illnesses and injuries, including those which are life threatening and require immediate attention.

Upon arrival, staff will triage patients. That means they assess the patient to help determine the nature and severity of the illness or injury. Physicians will then see patients with more serious conditions more rapidly than those with less severe symptoms or injuries. After the physician sees the patient, several things could happen. The doctor could admit the patient to the hospital, stabilize and transfer the patient to another hospital for further treatment, or discharge the patient.
