Hospitalist Program
The Hospitalist physicians at Sturgis Regional Hospital are board-certified Family Medicine physicians who specialize in hospital-based care for adults and are also trained in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac and Life Support. The hospitalists cover the emergency department and also maintain an outpatient practice.
About Our Program
Hospitalist physicians work as a team, so you may see more than one during your hospital stay. The Hospitalist may prescribe medications at discharge, but they do not authorize refills. When ready for discharge, the Hospitalist will communicate with your primary care physician to discuss further treatment needs, or assist you in finding a community provider.
You will be given information about discharge medication(s), home care, and help to arrange follow up appointment(s).

Benefits of a Hospitalist
- Deliver more personalized and family-centered care.
- Increased patient to physician face-to-face communication.
- The Hospitalist will come to your bedside each day. You can ask your nurse to contact your Hospitalist at any time.
- Hospitalists partner with primary care physicians to coordinate specialized medical treatment for individual patients.
- After your discharge, a summary of your hospitalization will be faxed to your primary care physician, who will resume responsibility for your care.
A Hospitalist talks with your primary care physician on a regular basis and has studied your records. At discharge, the Hospitalist works with your primary care physician to discuss any follow up or medication needs.
