Regional Weight Management

Regional Weight Management is an out-patient department of Rapid City Regional Hospital and is located in the Regional Rehabilitation Institute at 2908 5th Street. The Regional Weight Management bariatric team is dedicated to helping you meet your health care needs throughout your weight loss journey.

The goal of our program is to educate you about the surgical and non-surgical treatment for obesity and the permanent lifestyle changes required for you to be successful.

The surgery for obesity is not magic. If you take in fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight. We are here to provide continuing support and direction to assist you in achieving the goals you have set for yourself.

Surgical Options
At Regional Weight Management, we offer gastric lap band, gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy weight loss surgical options.

We are dedicated to bringing you total quality care:

  • Comprehensive program including nutrition, counseling, physical therapy and coaching;
  • Qualified multidisciplinary team to handle complications 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
  • Less than 1% on post-op complications (national average is 4.4%);
  • 99% lap band patient customer satisfaction score; and,
  • Average excess weight loss over 1 year is 49%.

Non-Surgical Option
The non-surgical program is called OPTIFAST. The OPTIFAST program is a medically supervised, portion-controlled, calorically precise, nutritionally complete diet supplied through meal replacements such as shakes, soups and bars.

The OPTIFAST program includes ongoing physician medical monitoring to assess your progress towards better health, adjust medication dosages and/or the calorie level of your diet as you lose weight. The program goes beyond the typical diet to help ensure your long-term success. The program provides personal support and lifestyle education.
