Surgical Options

Bariatric surgery promotes weight loss by restricting food intake. It may improve the health and quality of life for people who are severely obese and cannot lose weight by traditional means.

Lap Band or Gastric Bypass surgery may be an option if you:

  • Are at least 18 years old Body Mass Index
  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at
    least 40 (see BMI calculator at right), or
  • Have a BMI of at least 35 and suffer from one or more health problems such as Type II Diabetes, hypertension or sleep apnea
  • Are at least 100 lbs. overweight
  • Have been overweight more than 5 years
  • Are prepared to attend regular follow-up sessions and make lifestyle changes
